With hundreds of television channels and literally thousands of shows being aired on TV, it is indeed very difficult to choose the Top 10 Most Popular TV Shows 2013. Alas!! But the job has been assigned and so I have to pick up ten out of thousands.
Most of the shows which you will find in the list are sitcoms. What I can understand is that people watch TV for entertainment and what could be a better entertainment than laughing out loud with your family? However the taste varies from person to person, so the list also has some serials which address some serious social issues. And for those who don’t like even these, don’t get disappointed, we also have sci-fi series.
Though summer vacations are almost over, but still if you are at home getting bored, than the greatest way to pass your time is to pick up a TV show and watch all the seasons within a week (and for kids, don’t tell your parents that I advised all this!!).
10) New Girl
Owing to the fact that our lives our getting boring and stuffed with work 24/7, it’s no wonder that light hearted comedies and sitcoms like New Girl are getting more and more popular. The story of this show is based on a young adorable girl who moves into a house with three young men. And this might be enough of a reason for you to watch the whole two seasons.
9) The Walking Dead
And don’t we just love apocalypses and zombie invasions? Yes we do! Yes we do!! This horror drama series started in 2010. The third season that started in 2012, ended this year. Like other zombie flicks this one also includes a brainy leader named Rick Grimes who is a police officer that leads a group of survivors through the zombie stricken world.
8) Parks and Recreation
As the name suggests, this sitcom is all about entertainment and joy. The story revolves around a bureaucrat who is working in parks development department. Initially the show did not get very good remarks from the audience but then very wisely they implemented the changes which the audience wanted and made a great comeback.
7) House of Cards
House of Cards is a political thriller based on a novel by Michael Dobbs. The whole plot is based on a congressman who after gaining political power by taking up the seat of State Secretary, takes revenge from all the people who had betrayed him in the past. He seeks vengeance from his past enemies with his wife. The series has won critical acclaim and has got quite a positive response from the viewers.
6) Orphan Black
As much as the technology is advancing, the chances of fictions like cloning are increasing more and more. Obviously these things are unconventional and no matter how attractive they might look, they sure have some moral implications and un-answered questions which they raise. This thrilling drama serial is based on the same concept of cloning and revolves around a woman Sarah Manning who finds out her clone.
5) Mad Men
‘Mad Men’ is a period drama serial based on serious issues prevailing the society. It shows the work of an old prestigious organization. The details and story is based on the historical events and are quite authentic for that matter. The serial focuses on grave realities of life and problems like adultery, alcoholism, racism and smoking. The series has won four Golden Globe Awards and fifteen Emmy Awards.
4) How I Met Your Mother
It’s always nice to hear stories about how your parents met (especially because then you can find good point to argue with them when it comes you turn of finding your special person ;)). How I Met your Mother is an American sitcom. The show started back in 2005 and still it has a huge audience and high ratings. It has been nominated 24 times for Emmy Awards. The cast has also won awards for their performances in this show including People’s Choice award for Best Comedy TV actress. The 8th season started in 2012 and ended in 2013.
3) Bob’s Burgers Season 3
Looks like the audience just love comedy and especially situational comedy. The third season started off in 2012 and ended in May 2013. This is a situational comedy. The whole plot is based on Belcher family who run’s Bob’s Burger – a burger restaurant. The family members include Bob (father), Linda (mother), Louise (daughter), Gene (son) and Tina (daughter). A total of 23 episodes where aired. So if you are a lover of animated flicks than this is sure to give you roars of laughter.
2) Game of Thrones
Game of thrones, well the name is attractive enough and shows the monopoly of power. This television show got a huge fan following soon after it came on TV. This is a fantasy based drama serial. The plot is about seven families who fight to get hold of the throne to Westeros. The show is aired on HBO. This year in March, season 3 was premiered. The filming for season 4 will also commence this year and it will be premiered next year. The initial seasons were an adaption of novel. The whole story is roughly based on A Song of Ice and Fire. The shelf for this show is full of numerous awards including Emmy Award for Outstanding drama serial and Golden Globe Award for Best drama serial.
1) The Big Bang Theory
Even if you don’t watch television still you must have heard about this show on social networking sites and other places, I am pretty sure of that. As much as the name seems to be science stuffed, this show is a situational comedy. The show is based on three main characters including Leonard Hofstadter, Sheldon Cooper and Penny. Penny is a waitress while the other two are roommates. The whole story is about how two physicist and not just any physicists but quite socially awkward ones get to know the life with the help of a young girl who happens to live in their building. The tag line ‘Smart is the new sexy’ says it all about the show. The Big Bang Theory has landed on our list of Top Ten Most Popular TV Shows because of its high rating and immense popularity among the masses.
